Hats looking a little sad and sorry for themselves? Are they making your production look a little shabby? Hats are an important part of the mocap production pipeline and overstretched, ill fitting hats not only look unsightly, they can also cause havoc with your capture data. Mocap Ready is here to help bring some life back into your production wardrobe.
Unsightly edges and lack of shape, structure and fit can be salvaged by swapping out old elastics and bindings. Over time, the constant action of putting on and taking off a hat can cause elastic to over-stretch causing your motion capture hat to become baggy and ill fitting. The stretch recovery properties of the elastic (i.e. the ability to snap back) gradually reduces with natural wear and tear and eventually the length of the elastic becomes larger than the circumference of the hat, leading to warped, curled edges and a shapeless finish. The tight, second-skin function of your motion capture hat has been compromised and it's no longer fit for purpose.
Time to invest in a new hat or multiple hats? Or maybe try a more cost effective option and have them repaired. But with so many different types of elastic available to buy - braided, knitted and woven as well as latex free versions - each with varying stretch properties, it can prove overwhelming...and don't forget about that negative ease required for the perfect fit!
Mocap Ready is committed to reducing waste at landfill by helping you achieve a more sustainable approach to motion capture consumables. I offer an affordable hat repair service to fix, replace or add elastic and bindings to existing hats as well as mending seams, holes and fixing fabric piling. With over 20 years of stretchwear experience, I understand how to work with and manipulate stretch fabric and elastics to get a perfect fit, every time.
